Andersson became Sweden's first female prime minister in November 2021, but had a tumultuous election: political turmoil caused her to step down and get re-elected all within one week.
An economist, Andersson served as Sweden's finance minister from 2014 until 2021.
In December 2020, the policy advisory committee for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) selected Andersson to be the chair of the committee. She's the first woman to hold that position, too.
She got an early start to her political career, joining the Swedish Democratic Youth League in 1983, during her first year of secondary school.
