Kerrin O’Neill is a member of the U.S. Air Force who has been a Combat Controller for two years.
In her 1st week of basic training, O’Neill was one of only three women out of 115 recruits that finished the entire course. In her 10th week, she graduated from Air Force basic training and immediately headed to the Combat Control School to learn how to control air traffic over war zones.
After she graduates, O’Neill will have a good shot at being deployed in Afghanistan or Iraq. She will be the only woman to serve in this role in the entire Air Force.
O’Neill is currently working with her fellow airmen to determine what they think about having a female combat controller in their ranks. Her opinion is that they should be there because she believes she can do it. Kerrin O’Neill doesn’t believe that women are weak; she believes women are strong and want to live up to their strengths.
