Himachal Pradesh sees high turnout, women throng booths

Himachal Pradesh recorded 65.92% polling on Saturday with women and youth coming out in good numbers to cast their franchise. In the world's highest polling booth in Tashigang, 51 out of 52 voters turned up to vote.

Election Commission officials said while polling was still underway at 5 PM, 65.92% voting had taken place till then. It was expected to be around 74% at the close of polling.

Tashigang, where the world's highest polling station is located in Chamba district, recorded 98.085% polling. Only one voter out of 52 listed at the booth did not vote.

The officials maintained that the women voters turned up in impressive numbers as was clear from the long queues at polling booths.
