Cindy Mi is the CEO and co-founder of VIPKID, which connects teachers from North America with four to 15-year-old Chinese students who are learning English. The company was founded in 2013 and, since then, has grown exponentially. VIPKID has hundreds of thousands of teachers and students. Mi actually taught herself how to speak English and started tutoring other students by the age of 15, according to Money Inc.
Her best advice: "Two mistakes we made at the beginning: 1. We tried to build out too much technology right at the beginning. 2. We were not ready for fast growth," she said in a Y Combinator podcast. "When one of our parents posted on Weibo about VIPKID, 2,000 people signed up in one day. It took us three months to handle all of those requests."
