Bae Joo-hyun, born March 29, 1991), known professionally as Irene, is a South Korean singer, rapper and actress. She is the leader of the South Korean girl group Red Velvet. Red Velvet won the “New Artist of the Year” award at the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards. Irene is also known for her participation in variety television show, “Off to School”. She made her debut as one of the lead dancers and vocalist on Red Velvet’s single “Happiness”.
