Gong Li is a well-known Chinese actress who was born on December 31, 1965. She was born in China and now possesses Singaporean citizenship. From the 1990s to the 2000s, she collaborated with and dated filmmaker Zhang Yimou on several critically acclaimed films. Gong Li is only the second Asian to receive the Volpi Cup for Best Actress in the award’s history. With her outstanding portrayal in Thu Cuc Goes to Sue, she won Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival. Many of Gong Li’s performances, such as in “Red Sorghum,” “High Hanging Red Lantern,” “Golden Giap,” and especially “Memoirs of a Geisha,” are praised both inside and outside China. Gong Li is regarded as one of China’s most famous and accomplished actresses.
